Remembering a loving spirit
Please help us remember Hoshiko J. Nadal through a scholarship fund set up in honor of his name.
“Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing" ~ Naomi Shihab Nye
Dear Friends,
As some of you know, in June 2009, I lost my beloved son Hoshiko in a senseless car accident. I want to believe he is somewhere "in better hands" and he lives now on higher ground. Thank you for all your prayers and for thinking of our family during this difficult time.
To honor and remember our beloved Hoshiko, we have established a special scholarship fund called The Hoshiko J. Nadal Scholarship Fund, this fund supports The Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund. Each year, this new scholarship fund will benefit two deserving college-bound high school seniors at Hackensak High School where Hoshiko graduated in 2004.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 each year and we are thrilled to announce we have raised $40,000, since the fund was established in 2009. The the following studemts have been awarded scholarships
2009-2010: Mahalia Jackson and Daisa Gainey. 2010-2011: Noelis Peralta and Marqus Andre Pendelton. 2011-2012: Emily Coyle and Kylie Mowry. 2012-2013: Sequandra Heath and Nyles Hightower. 2013-2014: Daniel Lane and Casey Mac Vicar. 2014-2015 : Karina Grullon-Perez. 2015-2016 , Nada Elgazzar , 2016-2017, Jeffrey Mercado 2017-2018.
We want to keep the spirit of Hoshiko alive by continuing to honor his memory in years to come with this Scholarship Fund. These are tough times for everyone, but we ask that you send even a small amount so two deserving teens can benefit and bring to life Hoshiko’s motto - “Live Life to the Fullest.” All donations are tax deductible. Here is how to contribute:
1. Checks can be made out to The Hackensack Blue and Gold Scholarship Fund - Hoshiko J. Nadal and mailed to:
The Hoshiko J., Nadal Scholarship, c/o Milagros V. Nadal, 466 W. Anderson Street, Hackensack, N. J. 07601
2. For credit or debit card donations you may use the Donation button on top right thru Paypal.
MEMORIAL BRACELETS
In addition to the scholarship, black silicone memorial bracelets are available. They display Hoshiko’s motto and mark the date he left this earth – "Live Life to the Fullest 6.6.09.” We chose the color black because Hoshiko’s life was cut short, even though he loved life. Our hope is that these bracelets will spark conversation and motivate people to ask about their meaning. We believe this is a way to keep Hoshiko’s memory alive and a way to bring him up in everyday conversation so that his message will be passed on. Importantly, it will also serve as a reminder to drive safely. Bracelets are $5 each and raise additional money for the Scholarship Fund.
They can be ordered via phone: 201-343-7054 or by sending a check for $5.00 to:
Hoshiko J. Nadal Fund, 466 W, Anderson Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
